Junior Garcia, Texas teen, walking to DC with a cross on his back
Traveling on I-30, commuters will see an odd sight, a boy carrying a 12-foot cross on his back.
While it’s hard to miss, CBS DFW reports that Junior Garcia is on a mission to express his love for Jesus Christ.
“This is my way of showing them Jesus Christ wants a personal relationship with every single one of them,” Garcia said.
The Thursday report profiled the teen, who was inspired at a youth group at the Oasis Church in Saginaw to evaluate his personal Christian walk.
“Oh, man. I was going through so much in my life and really searching to see what God had for me, His call on my life. I just felt that separation from Him and felt like it was just time to get rid of worldly desires and focus on Him,” he added.
Garcia recalled in the article the day it all happened for him, salvation to be more precise.
“July 24 2011. I remember looking up to heaven saying, ‘I’m yours,’” the Texas teen explained.
“That day, I decided to take up my cross. And, I felt so strong in my heart. And, I felt Him tell me where to go and how to go. And, that’s where we’re going, Washington, DC” he said.
The journey is said to be 1369 miles, walking 12 hours a day, with a goal of arriving on July 13 for prayer.
His journey will also raise money for Speed the Light, an Assembly of God Missions giving program that will buy a car for a missionary in Mexico, Lemme said.
