‘Jungle Book Origins’ adds Freida Pinto to play Mowgli’s mom
Separate the Disney version from this one, Jungle Book: Origins will be directed by Andy Serkis, and just added actress Freida Pinto, who says she is portraying Mowgli’s adoptive mother in the new adaptation from Warner Bros. based on the same source material of Rudyard Kipling.
“I play Mowgli’s adoptive mother, so I’m very, very excited about it,” Pinto said.
“I read The Jungle Book and watched the TV series in India growing up, and for me, to finally be part of the film that reminds me so much of my childhood is just amazing,” the 31-year-old Indian superstar told ET online.
“It’s one of those films that I feel, no matter what age group you are, you’re going to enjoy that film, and I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve done something like that, because most of my films have not been good enough for children. A little too intense, so I’m very happy to finally be doing a film that can be (watched by kids).”
Pinto turned heads when she co-starred in Immortals alongside Henry Cavill, Luke Evans, Mickey Rourke, John Hurt, Joseph Morgan and Stephen Dorff.
Serkis’s adaptation of the classic tale is set to hit theaters in October 2017 with an all-star cast of Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hollander, Naomie Harris, Jack Reynor,Matthew Rhys,Eddie Marsan and Peter Mullan.
