Juan Antonia Bayona leads director list for ‘Jurassic World’ sequel

After last summer’s Jurassic World scored $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office and Universal will have to find a director for the sequel as Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow to signed on to helm Star Wars: Episode IX.

Deadline is reporting that Juan Antonio Bayona is the one to watch after being rumored to be attached to the project in September 2015, before he took the World War Z 2 job.

jurassic-world-posterNow that Bayona recently dropped out of Brad Pitt’s zombie sequel due to timing concerns, it looks like he may have cleared his schedule to take on Jurassic Park 2, which is still slated for a June 2018 release date.

“Back when I first inquired, I was told Bayona has a close relationship with producer Frank Marshall and everybody else there, so their talking didn’t necessarily mean he was directing, and I am told now by all sides that there are no talks yet, or offer for that matter,” Deadline stated.

“So all I can say at this point is, keep an eye on Bayona, who directed The Impossible and The Orphanage and is currently engaged in A Monster Calls.”

Stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in line to reprise their roles from the previous film.

Trevorrow and co-writer Derek Connolly (who both had a hand in penning the Jurassic World screenplay) were tapped to pen a thrilling, compelling adventure for the sequel.

Jurassic World 2 opens in theaters June 22, 2018.
