Joseph Gordon-Levitt confirms there is no script for ‘Sandman’ film yet

Joseph Gordon-Levitt spoke about the upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic, Sandman, which he is both producing and directing. While promoting the Sin City film, he gave up date on the progress of the film.

The Sandman 21 Season of the Mists comic book cover“Right now we’re working on a script,” says Gordon-Levitt to Moviefone. “It’s me and [David S.] Goyer and the screenwriter and Neil Gaiman, as well as the good folks at DC and Warner Bros. It’s a really cool team of people.”

“It’s a lot of the same people who worked on the Nolan Batman movies. It’s really exciting. There’s not a script yet, we’re still kind of working it out because it’s such a complicated adaptation because Sandman wasn’t written as novels,” the Don Jon star said in the Aug. 20 interview

JGL came on for the Sandman film back in December and later talked about making something on a “grand-scale spectacular” and now notes the incredible source material available.

Sin City was written as a novel. Sandman is 75 episodic issues. There’s a reason people have been trying and failing to adapt Sandman for the past 20 years.”

With Warner Bros. attempting to bring the DC characters to the big screeen, the film was thought to be ready sooner than later, but doesn’t sound like a reality.

“We’re still in the middle of it,” responds the star, when asked whether he, Goyer and Gaiman have managed to crack it, “so I don’t want to make any claims, but I think we’ve got the right idea.”

Early rumors had Sandman arriving in 2016, so 2017 seems more likely. Here’s the latest on the schedule:
