John Krasinski to star as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan for new Amazon series
Amazon is trying to capitalize on Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, casting The Office star John Krasinski as Ryan in a new series produced by Paramount TV.
Krasinski, 36, has been officially cast to star as the CIA agent on an upcoming Amazon series project Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse as well as writer Graham Roland and Armageddon director Michael Bay all attached.
Krasinski played Jim Halpert on The Office and is expected to headline the new Jack Ryan show, intended as a straight-to-series project: while Amazon hasn’t officially greenlit the project yet, it’s believed casting such a big name in the lead will smooth the process over.
Variety summarized how Clancy’s character has been adapted a number of times on the big screen with five films and four actors playing Ryan: Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger), Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears) and Pine (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, a reboot of the saga).
If greenlit, the Krasinski-starring version would be the first time Jack Ryan reaches the small screen.
