John Dickerson says ‘tax bills are really hard’, Big Tech gets it, Trump is ‘Jawboning’
Like so many in the media, tax reform took center stage for conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on his Friday morning talk show. During his conversation with CBS’ “Face the Nation” host John Dickerson, Hewitt and the guest acknowledged the long road ahead for the new tax bill.
“Tax bills are really hard, as you know,” Dickerson stated, noting the delays in 1986 (two years) before adding that “There’s such a political push to get something to pass, even much more than the Affordable Care Act replacement…there’s going to be a lot of serious bumps” ahead.
“We’re in a strange political time, so managing challenges is different than it has been in the past,” Dickerson said as Hewitt mentioned the need to reduce corporate tax before shifting gears to “Big Tech” appearing on “the Hill” this week.

“Some companies are in a different place than others,” Dickerson begins, addressing the public opinion on these big tech companies and the Russian investigation. “Facebook and Twitter are on the griddle now,” he says, contrasting that with the “cyber privacy concerns” of previous controversy.
Dickerson is convinced these companies “get it” and will respond as the public requests.

Hewitt was alluding to the lawyers from Facebook, Google and Twitter testifying on Capitol Hill Tuesday afternoon amid mounting political pressure to fully investigate Russian efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign and reveal publicly what they find.

“We used to talk about ‘Jawboning of The Fed’… the is jawboning his Attorney General” Dickerson asserted. “The President is lamenting the fact that he can’t do that (pick up the phone)…the people I talk in politics to on the left and the right are concerned with a whole host of other issues. This is really not at the top of their list…”
Dickerson confesses that he’s not surprised by the Brazile book, the crisis in the Democratic Party: “…this is what the Democrats have to wrestle with in a big way…”
