Joel Connable, former Miami news anchor, found dead in apartment when diabetic pump failed
Anchorman Joel Connable had called in sick to his new job on Monday, unaware his diabetic pump was malfunctioning. Tuesday, when he didn’t call in, his employer alerted the authorities, who found him dead in his apartment.
A former Miami anchorman was found dead on the floor of his apartment Tuesday, just weeks after his wedding (to Angela Shlyakhov) and relocation to Seattle, where he planned to relaunch his television career.
Joel Connable, age 39, died of a seizure related to the malfunctioning of his diabetic pump, a machine his sister said he always wore but did not notice was out of order.
“He called in sick Monday, saying he was very, very sorry but he had caught a bad bug,” KOMO news director Holly Gauntt told Gossip Extra. “When he didn’t show up for work late Tuesday, we called police and asked them to do a welfare check. Joel was found on the floor in his new apartment.”
“With great sadness we write to tell you of the death of our son, Joel. He had just started a new job at KOMO, the ABC TV station in Seattle, and he was alone in his apartment when his insulin pump malfunctioned. The lead line was disconnected without his realizing it. It was one of those accidents of fate,” wrote the anchor’s parents, Al and Roma Connable.
