JK Simmons on Gordon role in ‘Justice League’ and silent on role in more films
The Justice League films have certainly turned heads as they announced that Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons would portray Commissioner James Gordon in Zack Snyder’s two-part DC Extended Universe film package. Simmons spoke with Collider about the role and he praised the current cast.
“Obviously, a lot of really wonderful actors have played that character previously, and most of them I saw at the time the movies came out, never imagining that I would be doing the same thing,” Simmons admitted to Collider , although he was quick to point out that he will no longer be doing any cinematic research on Commissioner Gordon.
“I’m not planning on going back and watching any of the other films,” he revealed.
Simmons follows the most recent movie incarnation of Gordon, the role played by Gary Oldman in the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy. The Whiplash star sounds optimistic about playing Jim Gordon in more than one film, but was cautious speaking on the topic.
“I’m just planning on learning as much as I can about him through the comics and getting my feet wet in the first movie, and then hopefully continuing on from there,” Simmons said.
Fans would expect to see Simmons join the rumored Batman solo film, possibly arriving 2019 or 2020, but little is known at this point.
Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa all comprise the key members of the League. A Green Lantern is certain to appear at some point, rumored to be after (or at the end of JL- part 1).
Justice League – Part 1 will arrive in theaters on November 17, 2017 while Part 2 is scheduled for release on June 14, 2019.
There is no word yet on when the Batman solo movie will be released.
