JJ Allen identified as body pulled from river near Rochester
Police announced Thursday that the body found earlier this week in the Genesee River has been identified as James “JJ” Allen. Allen’s body was found Tuesday, approximately 8:45 a.m., near Shumway Marine in Irondequoit.
Allen, 25, has been missing since May 25. He didn’t show up for work and was then reported missing.
Rochester Sheriff’s investigators said an employee of the Border Patrol discovered the body by a dock near a Customs and Border Patrol boat. The sheriff’s office was notified and, with the help of other agencies, removed the body from the water.
Family members told press sources during the search that Allen left his home that Sunday with his wallet, phone and keys, but without his bike or car.
TWC News reported that “Allen’s stepfather, Doug Schoenheit, said the family is in constant contact with Rochester Police investigators. He declined further comment until the body is identified. ”
Police said the circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation.
