Jim Cummings interview: MegaCon 2014, voicing Scar in ‘Lion King,’ Ray in ‘Princess and the Frog’
The resume of voice actor Jim Cummings is too lengthy to do justice in this short article. Cummings heads to Florida this month for MegaCon in Orlando and spoke with The Global Dispatch/Dispatch Radio about the fans, developing characters, singing in character and sharing several great stories.
“Do the line” fans ask and “Folks are really into what they are really into,” he says while describing the fan reaction to Minsc of Baldur’s Gate/Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn and Lorewalker Cho from World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria at events like MegaCon.
Cummings was the voice behind Scar’s famous song Be Prepared in Lion King and we discuss the back story of the character voiced to Jeremy Irons.
He discusses character development and what character is a bad Yule Brynner impression. Darkwing Duck, Taz, Doc Savage and of course, Winnie the Pooh and Tigger are topics as well. There are countless roles voiced by Cummings, who is credited with over two dozen voices for Disney’s House of Mouse.
Noting a connection to his daughter, Jim explains his desire to be cast in Princess and the Frog, revealing a quick reference to his other daughter Lulu – watch the clip below, note Jim’s reference around the 1:17 mark.
