Jill Kelley, General Petraeus scandal leads to ‘Friends of MacDill’ review
Jill Kelley’s special access has been revoked, but the scandal involving the socialite and top level Generals has led to a full investigation and review of the “Friends of MacDill” access list.
Approximately 800 civilians are granted this access to the MacDill community, an ease through the brisk security checks as the front gate.
Driver’s license, insurance, a few questions – the long line at Central Command is from the scrutiny of the guards protecting access to the base.
Kelley’s reported access has raised several eyebrows.
“Everybody does go through a security check, obviously, before you’re given any kind of access,” said Teresa Foss told WTSP.
Foss leads the South Tampa Chamber of Commerce Military relations effort. She’s also on the military affairs committee. She’s an honorary commander at the base.
Foss is borderline offended by the “partying with brass” impression created this week and the potential to undermine their important work.
“People seeking notoriety and rubbing shoulders with the top brass on MacDill… I would say 99% of the people involved in the friends of MacDill program are not looking for that,” said Foss.
The Petraeus affair with biographer Paula Broadwell came to light after bizarre emails involving Jill Kelley and has now snowballed into several unanswered questions and security concerns.
