Jeremy Renner set to return for ‘Bourne Legacy’ sequel, now set for 2015
Aaron Cross will be back as Universal set a release date for a fifth film in the Bourne franchise.
Bourne 5 will see Jeremy Renner back with Fast Five director Justin Lin taking over behind the camera. Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) is penning the screenplay, making this the first Bourne film not written by Tony Gilroy.
Universal announced that the film will open August 14, 2015, opposite Smurfs 3.
Total Film writes: Plot details are non-existent at this stage, although we’d assumed the action will pick up where the last film left off, with Aaron Cross having fled his pursuers for pastures far-flung. As for whether Bourne himself will turn up, we’d suggest the absence of both Gilroy and Paul Greengrass would make the chances of a Matt Damon return somewhat remote.
Greengrass appears to be a key requirement for Damon to return to the franchise based on most of his comments over the last couple of years.
With Gilroy compeltely disconnected as well, Damon has no ties to the current state of the franchise.
So, to state it outright: The Bourne Legacy sequel, untitled at this point, will arrive in theaters August 14, 2015.
