Jeffery Peterson named Special Agent in Charge of the Anchorage Field Office

FBI Director Christopher Wray has named Jeffery E. Peterson as special agent in charge of the Anchorage Field Office. Mr. Peterson most recently served as a section chief in the Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch at FBI Headquarters.

Mr. Peterson joined the FBI in 1997 as a special agent and was first assigned to the Detroit Field Office, where he worked investigations involving fugitives, violent crime, and drug matters. After 9/11, he became Detroit’s first full-time airport liaison agent at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. While assigned to the Detroit Field Office, Mr. Peterson was awarded the FBI Shield of Bravery for his actions as a SWAT operator during an armed standoff.

In 2005, Mr. Peterson was promoted to supervisory special agent in the Counterterrorism Division at FBI Headquarters, where he coordinated the civil aviation security program. He also stood up the Transportation Security Unit, overseeing the rail, maritime, and civil aviation security programs.

Five years later, Mr. Peterson was selected as a supervisory senior resident agent in the Little Rock Field Office, where he was responsible for approximately 75 percent of the office’s territory. He received the U.S. Attorney General’s Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement for his work planning, managing, and executing Operation Delta Blues—the largest law enforcement operation in Arkansas history and one of the largest in FBI history.

In 2013, Mr. Peterson was selected as chief of staff to the assistant director of the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters, where he served as a key adviser and member of the senior management team.

Mr. Peterson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in from Tusculum College. Prior to joining the FBI, he served as a police officer in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and a deputy sheriff in Anderson County, Tennessee.
