‘Jason Bourne’ Super Bowl ad showcases Matt Damon’s return

The Untitled Fifth Jason Bourne Film has a title: Jason Bourne. Matt Damon returns in an explosive way during a Super Bowl ad certain to wake up fans for the return of the famous character.

With Damon back in the spotlight, especially since the babyface that made him an unlikely spy in previous films has given way to an aged, rugged face that looks perfect for an older, semi-retired Jason Bourne who gets sucked back into action against his better judgment.

“There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyberwarfare and civil liberties,” Damon said about the new film. “We find [Bourne] in a dark and tortured place” is the only clue he’d give to the character.

The story so far has been kept largely under wraps, though Alicia Vikander’s role as a cyberspecialist as been confirmed. Tommy Lee Jones joins the action as an “old school CIA agent” and Julia Stiles reprises her role as Nicky from the previous Bourne films.

Damon previously talked about the action, filming in different cities all over the globe as the action resume 12 years after his last Bourne film.

“We were in Tenerife, which is supposed to be Athens. It would be like a nighttime riot scene to kind of start the movie. And then England, Berlin a little bit for about a week, and a little bit in D.C. Then we’re going to Vegas for the third act… Big car chase on the strip.”

Expect this to wrap up the franchise as Damon told EW in an interview, Jason Bourne will feel much more like a continuation of the first three Bourne films than an independent addition to the franchise.

“This is the completion of this journey that started in the . It’s part of the first three [movies], it’s not a whole new chapter. It feels like the conclusion, even though we’re not saying it’s the conclusion, it feels like the conclusion of my identity journey. It goes deeper than Ultimatum, basically.”

Vincent Cassel and Ato Essandoh also have been cast in roles.

The Untitled Bourne Movie arrives in theaters July 29, 2016.
