Jamie Foxx talks ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ and credits ‘Django’ role to get the part
While promoting “Django Unchained,” star Jamie Foxx talked about his casting as the villain in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”
Foxx will play Maxwell Dillon aka Electro, but was careful with details while speaking with The Playlist on Wednesday.
“I’m going to keep it close to the chest but I followed the ‘Spider-Man’ comic books. And I would watch the television show growing up. It’s a blessing.”
The “Ray” star says it was “Django” which made the Spidey role possible.
“It’s incredible. Especially for my little daughter, who is there for the make-up tests and everything. That’s another testament to Quentin Tarantino because without ‘Django,’ I wouldn’t be doing ‘Spider-Man.'”
BELOW ARE FOXX’S COMMENTS ON ELECTRO’S COSTUME AND ORIGINS
“Django Unchained” in currently in theaters.
Foxx joins returning cast members Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and director Marc Webb for the second film in the “Spider-Man” reboot which opens May 2, 2014.
Foxx elaborated on the costume during an interview with Blackfilm:
“They want to have it more grounded and not as comic book-y, so it won’t be green and yellow. They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happened. How did he become this way? So, it will be some new stuff.”
MTV asked Foxx about the backstory for his Electro character, and the actor went right into story details and even delved a bit into his origin:
“You’ll see his whole life is just no one is talking to him, people have stolen his ideas at the company, he’s a nobody. And at a certain point Spider-Man bumps into him and says, ‘You’re my guy, you’re my ears and eyes on the street,’ and he says his name, Max, and no one’s ever said Max Dillon’s name, and he goes ‘Wow.’ And so when Spider-Man leaves he sort of thinks that somehow, ‘I am Spider-Man’s partner,’ and so he starts cutting out his face and pasting it on his board at home. When everything goes bad, his mom doesn’t remember his birthday, I mean all these crazy things happen until finally he has something tragic happen, and then when it turns on he lights it up.”
[…] Foxx explained how his character goes from good to bad: […]
I HAVE NOT SEEN THE FILM, “Django Unchained;” MY SISTER HAS – AND, SHE LOVES IT.
BUT, MY SISTER IS NOT HOMOSEXUAL; I AM. TO THOSE PEOPLE WHO CAN “READ BETWEEN THE LINES” ON THIS TYPE OF THING, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THAT Jamie Foxx IS CREATING AN “INTERESTING” PORTRAIT OF HIMSELF. “Django … ” HAS MALE HOMOSEXUAL REFERENCES – Leonardo DiCaprio HAS PORTRAYED A HOMOSEXUAL FRENCH POET [Arthur Rimbaud; “Total Eclipse”]; AND “Django-” Director, Quentin Tarentino, TURNED-DOWN A SONG FOR THE FILM’S SOUNDTRACK [PERFORMED BY SEXUALLY-VAGUE R&B SINGER, Frank Ocean]. NOW, Mr. Foxx, WANTS TO PLAY A ROLE IN A “Spider Man” FILM. OF ALL CARTOON SUPER-HEROES, “Spider Man” IS THE MOST HOMOEROTIC. [“Spider Man” wears a “skin-tight” suit which shows EVERYTHING on his body; and, because of webbing, he is able to cling to walls. My point is, male super-heroes who are considered heterosexual wear capes – i.e., “Superman,” “Batman,” etc.]. AND – ON TOP OF ALL OF THIS – NUDE PHOTOS OF Mr. Foxx ARE POPULAR ON MALE-HOMOSEXUAL WEBSITES.
IT WOULD NOT SURPRISE ME IF IN THE NEAR FUTURE, Mr. Foxx, “COMES-OUT AS, gay.”

[…] A Batman and Robin Mr. Freeze in a Trayvon Martin hoodie was one description to summarize the character’s obvious transformation. The odd appearance is likely the transitional appearance of Electro before fulfilling the description Foxx gave back in 2012. […]
