James McAvoy offers thoughts on Professor X and the ‘First Class’ sequel

While promoting “Arthur Christmas” British actor James McAvoy discusses the future of the X-Men: First Class films in an interview with iO9 yesterday.

Co-star Michael Fassbender (Magneto) recently said he’d like to see more of Charles Xavier, so it’s certain to be a theme for future films. McAvoy confirmed that he’s under contract for three films and is supportive of director Matthew Vaughn’s vision for the series.

James McAvoy as Professor Xavier in X-Men First Class“[Xavier] can’t just become the guy that we saw in the first three movies,” says McAvoy. “He just had two major things happen to him. He’s lost his best friend, essentially, and he’s just been paralyzed from the waist down. Which is just a huge, huge blow to his considerable ego. So he’s got to deal with that… You’ve got to deal with that, I don’t care if he’s a superhero and has brain powers or not, he’s just had a huge part of his physical life taken away from him, by someone he cares about more than anyone else. So he’s got to deal with that.”

McAvoy next voices the title character in Sony Pictures Animation’s Arthur Christmas, set for domestic release on November 23rd. He’s also slated to soon return to a different comic book world with the upcoming Wanted 2.
