Taylor made 27 of 71 3-point attempts, was 52 of 108 overall from the field and added seven free throws on 10 attempts while playing 36 minutes in Grinnell’s 179-104 victory over Faith Baptist Bible on Tuesday night in Grinnell, Iowa.
“I don’t think reality has set in yet,” said the 5-foot-10, 170-pound sophomore from Black River Falls, Wisconsin.
The 138 points passed Clarence “Bevo” Francis who held both the NCAA and collegiate scoring mark when he dropped 113 points for Rio Grande College of Ohio vs. Hillside in 1954.
“It’s kind of a life-changing moment,” Grinnell coach David Arseneault said.
“Jack Taylor you deserve a shot of Jack Daniels after that performance lol…wow” Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant tweeted.
“His elbow has got to be sore,” Knicks teammate Raymond Felton joked.
No one is talking about the 70 points that Faith Baptist’s David Larson scored, making 34 of 44 shots. Larson tweeted:
…only time you drop 70 and get no love. lol
