It’s time to focus on state government to restore liberty
At this point I consider the federal government a lost cause. In my opinion, Focusing your effort on your state government is the most effective thing you can do to restore liberty in this country.
But there is still going to be an election for president and your vote can still do something. There is a story in Florida that you might not be aware of that may help you in your decision making this election.
In 2014, I was working on the campaign of Adrian Wyllie. He was the Libertarian candidate for Governor of Florida. We had a great team and he ran a great campaign. At the end of the day he was able to garner nearly a quarter of a million votes. While it was not nearly enough to win it did have an impact.
How?
The change that we have seen in the Florida legislature since that election has been obvious if you are looking at it. We are seeing politicians changing in some ways and moving in a more libertarian direction.
This is not to say that the Republicans and Democrats still do things that libertarians disagree with. They will but that election showed them that there is a base of support that is willing to walk if they don’t start changing.
So what does this have to do with the 2016 election for president?
In some ways this is turning out to be a similar race. You will have a Democrat and Republican that will be racing to the bottom. Both already have unpopular ratings and it will only get worse when they really start attacking each other.
There is no way that I could vote for either Trump or Clinton. IMO Any vote for either of them is a wasted vote.
So this leaves either not voting or voting for the Libertarian candidate.
We will find out in a month who the nominee will be but right now it looks like it will be either Gary Johnson, John McAfee or Austin Petersen
Here is why voting Libertarian in 2016 is the best move you can make.
If you want to see libertarian issues then the politicians need to see it at the ballot box. If you just fall in line over and over and will not take a stand then nothing will change.
but the best part is that you do not have to see the majority. The direction changed in Florida and it only took 5%. Imagine what would have changed if we were able to get 10% or 15% or even win the damn thing.
And in a recent poll Gary Johnson was already polling at 11%. At 15% he is in the debates.
Don’t you want to at least see someone else up there on that stage besides Clinton and Trump?
FAIR WARNING: Don’t bring me any “voting for the Libertarian will only split the vote and give the election to ________________”
That way of thinking got us Trump and Clinton in the first place.
