Remember how for years before George Bush the second erroneously and illegally took us into war with Iraq. And the multitudes of reasons why we should be there over the years; WMDs, Saddam is horrible to his people, they are harboring al Qaeda, etc.
Well the US government and the neoconservative news media were trying to racthet up the citizens into believing it was necessary for OUR national security to attack Iraq for several years prior to us actually attacking.
Well it’s deja vu.
Now the “monster to destroy” is Iran.

It’s been a long time coming but I sense the war drums being beaten more loudly and more frequently.
Neocon Joe Lieberman has been one of the strongest advocates for attacking Iran for years. In 2007 on the Sunday show “Face the Nation”, Lieberman advocated “if there’s any hope” of stopping Iran’s nuclear program, “we can’t just talk to them. … We’ve got to use our force and to me that would include taking military action.”
Lieberman continues beating the drums of preemptive war yesterday during a speech at the annual Munich Security Conference. Here he said “We have a choice here: to go to tough economic sanctions to make diplomacy work or we will face the prospect of military action against Iran.”

Either way its an act of war. Don’t think sanctions are an act of war?
Just imagine it happening to your country.
Then the most evil of all was the piece in the National Review by Daniel Pipes in which he suggests that if Mr. Obama wants to save his presidency he should bomb Iran.
WOW.
He reminds us that a majority of people are for it and, deja vu, just like Iraq, people will “rally around the flag”.
Very reminiscent of the 90s and early 2000s when neocons like Bill Kristol and John Podhoretz were urging incessantly our elected officials to go into Iraq.
I have truly come to the conclusion that we WILL attack Iran, probably soon (a matter of a few short years). As the government goes increasingly into debt and as the economy continues to tank, Obama or his successor will need a war to help his or her approval ratings.
Unfortunately, it is inevitable that military conscription (the draft) will have to be reinstated. Our children, not the children of these politicians and wealthy individuals will end up in the sand of the Middle East. On a recent McLaughlin Group show, they showed a clip of Lt General Bill Caldwell saying that we can’t keep this up. Retention is low and well as recruitment.
At
Insights, we’ll be keeping an eye on developments over Iran and the future military draft.
