‘Iron Fist’ adds Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing
Fans will be getting a Game of Thrones reunion of sorts on Marvel’s Iron Fist as Finn Jones, who plays Loras Tyrell on the HBO fantasy series, has already been cast as Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist, and he’ll now be joined by Nymeria Sand herself, Jessica Henwick as the female lead, Colleen Wing, a martial arts expert in New York who runs her own dojo and will play an important role in Rand’s return to the city.
EW reported the casting news, which comes just a couple of weeks after Marvel confirmed Jones as Rand.
“Jones will play Daniel Rand, who returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”
The character of Colleen Wing first appeared in Marvel Premiere #19 in late 1974 as a creation of Doug Moench and Larry Hama.
She’s of Japanese descent and her father is a professor of Asian history and culture at Columbia University.
Though she possesses no superhuman abilities, she is a master of martial arts combat and swordsmanship. Her comic book character eventually learns to harness chi in a manner that allows her to increase her strength, accelerate her healing, and increase her ability to survive harsh conditions.
More interesting for comic book fans is how Colleen Wing and Misty Knight (Simone Missick) will cross paths in Marvel’s Netflix universe.
