Innovation Inspiration: How Today’s Travelers Are Driving Mobile Tech Trends

With today’s ever-present mobile technology, travelers all around the world are redefining their needs and driving new innovations in that technology. There are hundreds of apps released every day that want to accommodate travelers wherever they go.

This trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down, either. More and more people are finding the means to travel as flights become cheaper and people are more aware of what’s going on anywhere in the world. With more people traveling, the wants and needs of people are constantly shifting, and technology is trying its best to give them what they want. Here are a few of the most recent technological advances that aim to help travelers.

Alternative Accommodations

While hotels, hostels and crashing on a friend’s couch will always be staples in the lives of travelers, services based on the emerging “sharing economy” are rapidly making headway, giving travelers an alternative way to spend their nights.

Apps like Airbnb let users find accommodations at other people’s houses rather than staying in a hotel or other traditional accommodation. This is good for two reasons: the first being that, in many cases, the accomodations end up being much cheaper than staying in a hotel. Secondly, by staying in someone’s home, they get to see parts of a town or city that they may not otherwise have been able to. You can find houses in suburbs, on quiet lanes or in the heart of a city, so you can adjust your accommodations to fit your travel desires.

One thing that travelers hate is waiting in line to get things done. From the airport security line to the hotel lobby, nobody wants to wait around while they could be having fun experiencing the world around them, and technology is providing an answer.

Automatic check-ins at hotels, having the ability to touch a button in an app for a ride and even having a passport that can be read instantly by a machine are all recent technological advances that address the problem of waiting for travelers. As this technology advances, travelers may find themselves waiting around less and experiencing the world around them more.

Informational Apps

Another thing that travelers want is the ability to stay current on many topics. App designers have responded by creating apps that will keep them “in the know” on nearly any subject they can think of.

There are apps that cover travel conditions, like this weather app, current news stories, science news, politics and more. Every popular social media platform has an app as well so travelers can constantly stay in touch with their friends and family so they know what’s going on back home. These apps are a direct response from tech companies and designers to give travelers everything they may need while they are on their adventures.

With today’s technology, people who travel can have almost anything they want. And as the years go by, there will be even more cool things to make traveling fun and easy.
