‘Independence Day 2’: Female prez Sela Ward joined by ‘Hunger Games’ star as aliens back 15 years later
Fans have yearned for a follow-up to the blockbuster Independence Day and next summer, they get their wish. Independence Day 2 has added Sela Ward as the new President, Hunger Games: Catching Fire star Patrick St. Espirit and Vivica Fox confirmed the timeline for the new film.
“The aliens are back, and it’s about 15 years later,” Fox said at Motor City Comic Con via mLive.
The Wrap reported St Espirit joining the cast as the Secretary of Defense, obviously working in scenes with Ward, the female president.
The 61-year-old actor will also be seen alongside Dwayne Johnson on HBO’s new series Ballers, noted the Wrap.
Jessie Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Travis Tope and Joey King are also newcomers to the franchise.
Fox joins fellow returning cast members Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, and Brent Spiner, along with newcomers Liam Hemsworth and Sela Ward.
1996 hit film grossed over $3o6 million in the US alone, global haul over $817 million. With 3D and IMAX padding the receipts, ID4-2 will certainly reach the $1 billion mark globally.
Independence Day 2 opens June 24, 2016.
