‘Independence Day 2’ adds William Fichtner, set for two more films
William Fichtner doesn’t seem to have a returning role in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, but fans will see the actor next summer since he has joined Roland Emmerich’s alien invasion sequel to Independence Day in a leading role.
Fichtner will be in the spotlight for Independence Day 2 as Deadline reports that Fichtner will play an Army General and has signed on to reprise the role in a further two sequels.
“He has been doing such good work for so long as a character actor — Heat, The Perfect Storm and Black Hawk Down are just a few — it’s hard to begrudge him taking that next step in big tentpole fare like Independence Day,” Deadline notes.
Fichtner had a role to play as the TMNT nemesis Shredder, but now only Brian Tee is listed, so stay tuned to see how that plays out.
Fichtner is set to join returning stars Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Bill Pullman and a new cast that includes Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Jessie Usher.
The story picks up twenty years after the events of the original and will center on the invaders attempting to wipe out mankind.
Independence Day 2 opens on June 24, 2016.
