Illinois Rep Luis Gutierrez says Obama push on immigration is what we voted for
On the program “Democracy Now,” Illinois Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez defended President Obama’s recent push on illegal immigration reform.
Monday’s show featured Gutierrez saying the issue needed the “push (Obama) hard” and that the President did “go around the legislative process“ but that it was necessary because it was what a ”majority” of America wanted.
President Obama is under harsh criticism from his right-wing opposition and talk radio.
The Congressman added that ““this is the Barack Obama we voted for” right after explaining that the president agreed to ”do something from an executive level.”
Gutierrez discusssed that he is hopeful Marco Rubio would join him in praising the president, but criticized the GOP Presidential nominee, Mitt Romeny, saying the former Massachusetts Governor would not “use the power of the presidency” in this radical way.
Gutierrez finished his comments by announcing that ”being safe in America is like the best example of democracy.”
