Illinois: Body found in Englewood sewer identified as missing Rolling Meadows senior, Vasudeva Kethireddy

The body discovered in an an Englewood sewer Friday morning is the missing Rolling Meadows man who went missing last month while collecting rent  from several properties in the South Side neighborhood.

Vasudeva Kethireddy

Vasudeva Kethireddy, a 76-year-old businessman who disappeared in Englewood the morning of August 4, was pulled from a sewer around 10:30 a.m. yesterday in the 6200 block of South May Street, according to Chicago police sources.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office will be performing the autopsy and confirm the identification, but multiple sources now confirm with the Dispatch that this is Kethireddy.

Kethireddy, a businessman and landlord, left his northwest suburban home that Saturday, making the trek he made several times a week to do odd jobs and collect rent from his South Side properties. His son Shantan Kethireddy reported his missing to police.

“Right now all we know is that there was a body found. There is no conclusive evidence to whether it is him or not,” said the missing man’s son, Shantan Kethireddy, speaking to the press. “All signs point to the fact that it could be, but again, I want to let the medical examiner do their work.”

Thereafter, on August 7, police located his 2005 Toyota Prius near 60th and May streets. Police also stated that Kethireddy deposited checks at a Chase bank and made a large withdrawal from a teller and later from an ATM.

Community Activist Andrew Holmes said that Kethireddy’s credit cards were used in the area where the vehicle was located, including at a nearby Citgo gas station, shortly after he went missing. The credit card was used to purchase bleach.

While nothing is official, the source tells the Dispatch that police are pursuing various leads, pointing to a robbery or mugging “gone bad,” but that is unofficial at this time.

GoFundMe to assist his family raised over $4,000 so far.

Anyone with information about Vasudeva Kethireddy can contact Rolling Meadows police at (847) 255-2416 or Chicago police at (312) 747-8220.

The Kethireddy family is offering an $11,000 reward for information in this case.
