Hugh Jackman confirms ‘The Wolverine’ sequel script is done
Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine character has become iconic and fans will be sadden to see the Aussie exit the role, but The Wolverine sequel is indeed movie ahead and Jackman gave an update on the script and production.
While at Sundance, ahead of his new film Eddie the Eagle, Jackman tells Collider that “We have a script. A full script. To tell you, two days ago I got that the full finished—well, it’s not finished, but we’re getting super close—as you can see by the rate of my facial hair. That might give you a good clue that perhaps…yeah, it’s sooner rather than later.”
In addition to the facial hair, Eddie the Eagle co-star Taron Egerton joked “Also, the pecs are expanding as well” to which Jackman quipped: “I have had six meals today already.”
Collider pressed about a production date or time frame, but Jackman stated that “I don’t have a firm date yet. My thing and I’ve told you and I’ve told everyone, it’s my last one, for me I want it to be perfect, so the moment I know it’s perfect, bang, we’ll go.”

Jackman has been vocal that the Wolverine run is ending and even said that Tom Hardy would be a great replacement.
“I think Tom Hardy would be a great Wolverine. He is younger than me for sure… However, I haven’t really given it a lot of thought I’m always like, ‘I don’t want to make it too easy on the studio to replace me,’ you know? I’ve still got one more (film) to do. I’m sure they’re already talking about it, and there’s some actor (they’ve told) ‘shh, keep it quiet but we want you next.”
Simon Kinberg said in a statement, “I do think you would want to figure out how to tell more Wolverine stories. So either we would try to entice Hugh to come back and eat more chicken and work out for a few months, or we would have to figure out a creative way to move forward. Honestly, I can’t imagine anybody else playing the part, and there’s not too many characters I can say that for”.
Director James Mangold will return for the new film, rumored to have an “Old Man Logan” storyline, but details are not concrete.
Wolverine 3 is currently slated for March 3, 2017.
