Hugh Hewitt blames failed Obamacare bill on Senators Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Susan Collins, Jerry Moran, Dean Heller, Ron Johnson

Conservative radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt placed all of the blame for the delayed Obamacare reform on U.S. Senators Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Susan Collins, Jerry Moran, Dean Heller and Ron Johnson.

Hewitt blasted the GOP split, calling for voters to abandon these Republicans and describing Heller as a “dead man walking,” referring to his re-election in 2018 and stating that anyone donating to Heller is a “moron.”

In June, Hewitt wrote that this was the last stand against a single-payor system: “If the GOP does not disengage the country’s health-care system from the disaster of Obamacare, we are headed for the misery of single-payer. This is the last chance to divert that outcome.”

“Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Mike Lee, R-Utah, Ron Johnson, R-Wis., and Rand Paul, R-Ky., have their hands on the right side of the ship’s wheel. Sens. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., Susan Collins, R-Maine, Cory Gardner, R-Colo., Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and Rob Portman, R-Ohio, have their hands on the left side of the wheel. Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., is a man overboard and presumed lost in the D.C. seas. A miracle could still happen – Heller could figure out that jumping ship would doom his reelection and somehow climb back on board – but don’t count on it.”

Even as callers attempted to challenge Hewitt during his Tuesday morning tirade, he skirted the topic of $200 billion in bailout funds for insurance companies and praised Mitch McConnell’s leadership in the Senate.

McConnell tweeted a statement. “Regretfully, it is now apparent that the effort to appeal and immediately replace the failure of Obamacare will not be successful,” he wrote. “So, in the coming days, the Senate will vote to take up the House bill with the first amendment in order being what a majority of the Senate has already supported in 2015 and that was vetoed by then-President Obama: a repeal of Obamacare with a two-year delay to provide for a stable transition period to a patient-centered health care system that gives Americans access to quality, affordable care.”

Byron York writes that this “does show very clearly that many Republicans just do not want to repeal Obamacare. They said they wanted to do it, they made it their top policy priority, they campaigned on it — and now, with the power in their hands, they don’t want to do it.”
