How voting for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton could damage a Christian’s testimony and witness

Welcome to Election 2016. It’s time to vote. But as Christians, do we now face a no win scenario by picking the “lesser of two evils?” Does voting for either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump make it nearly impossible to maintain credibility for battles over religious freedom, tolerance in the public square or just the day-to-day witness and testimony?

In one corner is Hillary Clinton with a career tainted by allegations of corruption, lies and betrayal. From Benghazi to Planned Parenthood, there is something to give every Christian pause. Like Tim Kaine, those on the left supporting the former Secretary of State have chosen to deny or overlook tenets of Christianity. Funding abortions, forcing Christian businesses to participate in gay weddings or the possibility of subpoenaed sermons make evangelicals part way with Democrats very quickly.

It’s no surprise, since the DNC voted against God and considers most of their beliefs to be “hate speech.” Christians are extremists and Muslims are the allies to the current administration, so the threat of a Hillary Clinton presidency makes Donald Trump a viable candidate.

A vote for Trump does not come with an expectation of what “he will do” but rather, preventing what Clinton most certainly WILL DO. Trump is apathetic about religious liberty, the aforementioned battle over Roe v Wade or the Hyde Amendment.

No one expects Trump to articulate the objection to transgender bathroom laws or open up adoption laws to make saving unwanted babies easier, cheaper and a more viable option to murdering the unborn human.

No, Trump bides time for Christians.

But at what cost?

Trump wasn’t just divorced previously, he cheated on his wives, spoke out publicly about his sexual exploits, denigrating women and ridiculing females even during his campaign run. A framed Playboy hangs in his office and few believe the profane outbursts and insults have ceased due to the result of a repentant heart.

How do we look at our kids or those in the congregation to speak out against divorce, adultery, promiscuity, covetousness, profanity and discrimination if we have voted for Trump?

One of the biggest complaints against Christians and their faith is hypocrisy.

Good luck reconciling messages on the beatitudes (Matthew 5) with Trump in the White House and a bumper sticker on your car.

While Christians may have recoiled at Trump’s attacks on Megyn Kelly, Carly Fiorina or Heidi Cruz, they may have also smirked as the Celebrity Apprentice host attacked the media, calling them “scavengers” or ABC’s Tom Llamas a “sleaze.”

Have many evangelicals winced when Trump mocked New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski, who has a muscular disability, but cheer when he speaks out against Syrian refugees?

That said, how will the lessons from James 3 on bridling our tongues resonate from pulpits full of Trump supporters?

Trump supporters cling to the promises of border security, ignoring his confession that “everything is negotiable.” Like Ted Cruz, support comes from many over his “latest” Supreme Court justice candidate list, despite telling Mark Halperin that his liberal sister would make a “phenomenal” SCOTUS judge.

How do we maintain our integrity with this delusional, a la carte approach to the candidate? How do we hold our heads high if Trump reverts to his “old ways,” “old policies” and decisions which betray everything we believe in?

Are backing the old Trump, the new Trump, the Mike Pence controlled Trump or do we not know?

Is it possible America has fallen victim to the same trappings of Israel crying out for a king of their own?

In 2008 atheist Christopher Hitchens wrote a scathing attack on Hillary Clinton being a liar: “This must mean either a) that she lies without conscience or reflection; or b) that she is subject to fantasies of an illusory past; or c) both of the above.”

So where do we stand on lying to ourselves?

Are we a) voting without conscience or reflection; or b) subjecting ourselves to fantasies of an illusory past; or c) both.

As far back as Deuteronomy, the Bible says to “Choose wise, understanding, and knowledgeable men from among your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.”

Romans 13 commands submission, so we must pray, be obedient and admirable citizens as God’s elect, so doesn’t that start now? Read that chapter and let the close fester in your hearts: “…put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.”

Vote.

Vote with a prayerful heart and mind, noting that fear does NOT and should NOT drive your decision because we do NOT need a KING, for we already have one in Christ Jesus.

Interesting to see that when you want logic in politics you quote christopher hitchens – but when he aplied thats same logic to your irrational religious beliefs you went ballistic on his application of that logic – but i never see the same attacks against anybody with a science/medical background – all of us logical non-believers who are doing ground breaking quant analysis – i guess are tolerated because our work helps cure disease and advance humanity – when born agains have too understand is that thinking outside of the box is what moves us as a species forward – if you locked in the box you will never see – a bright light in a closet is just that – an illusion for your own happiness – come out of the box and lets move humanity forward – we want you with us happy, content and enlightened

I didn’t the Hitchins quote illustrated any logic, just offered a voice aligned with the Godless left of the Democratic Party. Somehow you turned the post into an attack on Christians, good job. Way to live up to the intolerant stereotype.
