How To Not Let A Bad Boss Keep You Down

Do you have a bad boss? There are different levels of bad bosses, when you think about it. You have the bosses that just don’t care, and then the ones that seem to care too much. There are strict bosses and bosses that are too easy on certain people. The worst of them, for most people, could be the bosses that favorite certain employees, especially when those employees use that favoritism to slack off, show up late and just not do their jobs.

If you care about your job, see it as a career, and do everything you can to be excellent at what you do, then maybe you’ll want a few tips on how to not let that bad boss make your worklife bad too.

The Unsuccessful Boss

It could simply be that your boss just has a bad streak of luck when it comes to work. According to The Steve Trautman Co., who specialize in knowledge transfer, you can have a boss that puts in the work but remains unsuccessful, for whatever reason. You can help that boss help you. Talk to them about strategies you may have, make them a list of things that you would do if you were in their position.

This type of boss is easy to like, but it can be hard to work for them, so helping them out is probably the best thing you can do for them. You don’t want their job, but you want them to keep theirs.

It can be really difficult to work for a boss that does nothing. You want to know that they can do the job they expect you to do, but it seems like they just sit around barking order all day. The best way to deal with the lazy boss is to make yourself look better. Instead of going over their head, ask to take on some extra responsibilities to take up the slack. Then you’ll raise your chances of proving your value and maybe moving forward in your career.

The Boss With All The Pets

Even worse than the lazy boss is the boss that has their own “teacher’s pets.” These are the employees that even though they show up late and they spend all day gossiping instead of working they still get more hours and more advancements than you, even though you spend all day working and consistently show up early.

When you find yourself with this kind of boss the only thing you can really do is to keep doing what you do, but maybe start looking for a career elsewhere. There’s no changing this type of boss and you’ll never get in front of the pet no matter how hard you try as long as that same person is in charge.

Your work life is what you make it. If you aren’t happy, then it’s time to find a career where you are happy. Not all bosses are created equal, and maybe your next one will be the perfect boss!
