Hillary Clinton counters Fact Check, Buzzfeed, Sean Hannity attacks on ‘equal pay for women’
Republicans have frequently attempted to twist the facts in an effort to distract from their opposition to guaranteeing equal pay for women. The truth is, Hillary Clinton paid the men and women who worked for her equally while she served in the Senate.
- Factcheck.org: “The Republican National Committee chairman says Hillary Clinton paid women in her Senate office less than men. But annual salary data provided by the Clinton campaign show median salaries for men and women in Clinton’s office were virtually identical.”
Politifact: “Hannity said Hillary Clinton paid “paid female staffers a lot less than the men” than when she was a senator. […] We rate this claim Mostly False.”
- Buzzfeed: “Internal Data: Hillary Clinton Paid Women And Men Equally”
The claim that The Clinton Foundation pays a lot more to men than they do women is completely false. PolitiFact evaluated this charge and found that these accusations cherry pick numbers – this report “accounts for just a fraction of all employees in the organization – and even of senior management at the foundation.” In fact, at the end of 2014, 64 percent of its U.S.-based employees were women; the senior leadership team was split evenly between women and men; and the median salary of women in leadership was over 90 percent the median salary of men in leadership, close to parity.
From the Free Beacon coverage:Clinton herself has raised the issue, saying last year that there is still “more work to do,” and that 20 years ago women made just “72 cents on the dollar to men”–a figure identical to the gender pay gap in her own Senate office.
20 years ago, women made 72 cents on the dollar to men. Today it’s still just 77 cents. More work to do. #EqualPay#NoCeilings
