‘Highlander’ reboot gets a script by ‘Hercules’ ‘Rampage’ writer

Fans may have a mixed reaction to the latest news on the Highlander reboot: a writer has been hired, but sadly, it’s the writer of horrible blockbuster films starring the Rock.

20th Century Fox

Ryan J. Condal, best known for writing Dwayne Johnson features Hercules and Rampage, has turned in a script for Lionsgate’s Highlander reboot, which is expected to begin filming sooner than fans may have expected, possibly filming later this year.

Deadline reports that the project is moving forward with the Condal script and John Wick co-director and John Wick: Chapter 2 helmer  Chad Stahelski still attached to direct.

Patrick Wachsberger, President of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group told Deadline “We’ve finally got a screenplay we’re happy with.  We have set up the story so it has sequel potential.”

Stahelski is slated to start production on the reboot after finishing up work on John Wick: Chapter 3 for a potential 2019 release.

In addition to the Christopher Lambert Highlander films that began in 1986, a live-action TV series starring Adrian Paul ran for six seasons from 1992-98.  A Saturday morning cartoon ran for 2 seasons beginning in 1994 and a violent, anime film titled Highlander: The Search for Vengeance was released in 2007.
