HGTV Snatched the Brady Bunch House Off the Market to Restore It to ‘Its 1970s Glory’

Discovery, Inc. shared that HGTV has won the bid for the Studio City, Calif. house that served as the exterior for the original Brady Bunch home from 1969 to 1974. The network reportedly intends to restore the residence to its original television appearance. (Adweek)

Discovery CEO David Zaslav made the announcement on the company’s second-quarter earnings conference call Tuesday. The CEO didn’t specify a price tag for the house. (THR)

Zaslav did not give a sense of what sort of program HGTV might build around the structure or whether Brady Bunch actors might take part. Over the years, actors like Mr. T and Vanilla Ice have taken part in programs on DIY, another home-improvement network that is part of the Scripps portfolio. (Variety)

Shares of Discovery fell nearly 6 percent on Tuesday morning after the parent of cable networks TLC and Animal Planet reported second-quarter profits that missed Wall Street expectations. (New York Post)

Discovery’s acquisition of Scripps, which was completed in March, created a powerhouse in the unscripted and lifestyle content field that combines assets including the Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet and OWN with Scripps’ HGTV, Travel Channel and Food Network channels. (THR)
