Hernán Mendoza, Diego Angelini, Alejandro Pagnucco, Ariel Erlij, Hernan Ferruchi identified as victims in Manhattan attack
Five tourists have been identified as victims in yesterday’s terrorist attack in Manhattan, struck down by Uzbekistan immigrant turned Islamic State operative Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov.
The Argentine government identified the slain victims as Hernán Mendoza, Diego Angelini, Alejandro Pagnucco, Ariel Erlij and Hernan Ferruchi.
In a statement to the press, detailed have revealed that Erlij steel craftsman near Rosario, Ferruchi an architect and all of them were visiting New York City for a thirty-year reunion. A sixth man with the group, Martin Marro, suffered critical injuries to his neck during the attack and is recovering at a lower Manhattan hospital.
Saipov, 29, barreled down the bike path with a rented Home Depot flatbed truck striking down innocents after screaming “Allahu Akbar” repeatedly.
The attack left eight dead and another dozen injured.
A Belgian woman, 31, was struck while riding a bicycle died at the Lower Manhattan Hospital a half hour after the attack. Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Didier Reynders said three other people from his European nation were also injured hurt in the attack. (The woman has NOW been identified as Ann-Laure Decadt)
A spokesperson for Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina told The Post that two staff members and two students were among those who were wounded. They had been on the school bus, which was struck by Saipov.
Early reports claimed the man was running through traffic on West Street with what appeared to be a BB gun and paintball gun, but one police officer was shot.
Police shot and wounded the Islamic extremist, who was treated at Bellevue Hospital and remained in custody. Officials have confirmed that Saipov left a note in the truck saying he committed the attack for ISIS, the Islamic State.
