‘Hell on Wheels’ renewed by AMC for a third season

Deadline confirmed Monday that AMC has issued a 10-episode renewal of “Hell on Wheels” for a third season.

Creators Joe and Tony Gayton are stepping down as executive producers and will no longer be involved day-to-day on the show. They appear to be interested in staying on to consult. John Shiban will continue as director.

The Gaytons had a two-year contract for Hell On Wheels, which has expired, now have sold a drama project to NBC.

“Hell on Wheels” numbers are down only slightly, but isn’t following “The Walking Dead” on the AMC lineup.

The cast appears to still be onboard: Anson Mount, Colm Meaney, Dominique McElligott and Christopher Heyerdahl.
