‘Hannibal’ season 3 teaser, Richard Amitage cast, arrives in the summer

Hannibal fans get some good news and some bad news as NBC dropped the first teaser trailer, previewing season three of the popular drama centering on Hannibal Lecter. Joining Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen will be Hobbit star Richard Armitage.

The bad news is that the return of Hannibal will be later than expected, in the summer, not the Spring.

The network’s entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt confirmed the date because the network loves summer. “It’s a show we love, it’s critically acclaimed, we love it,” Greenblatt said. “And we also love summer. We have exciting plans for summer,” the exec told Entertainment Weekly.

Season three will pick up a year after the brutal events of the Season 2 finale, and below is the first look at the upcoming third season of NBC’s grisly drama. The dark and eerie images foretell more mayhem as Will Graham and Dr. Hannibal Lecter square off. Wolverine‘s Tao Okamoto has a major arc this season.

Armitage comes along as Francis “The Tooth Fairy” Dolarhyde, one the creepier psychos to come crawling from novelist Thomas Harris’s imagination.

Fans also learned that episode 8 will feature a time jump ahead a few years and at the end of the time leap Graham will already be married. Furthermore, his new wife – whose name will be Molly – will have a 12-year-old son. According to TV Line, Molly will help Graham move past some of the dark, traumatic experiences he has had in the show’s first two seasons.

The first marriage-filled episode comes after an episode 7, “Digestivo,” that EP Bryan Fuller has already warned will be one of the weirdest episodes of the show yet. Will Graham experience even more trauma to work out with his new wife?

The show is still casting the role of Molly, which will only reportedly last for four episodes.

Recurring guest star Gillian Anderson will be back. Joe Anderson will now be playing Verger (check out the pic) and Armitage is set for a six-episode arc.
