‘Handmaid’s Tale’ star Elisabeth Moss to lead ‘The Invisible Man’ film
Universal’s upcoming The Invisible Man reboot has found its star in The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss.
Variety reports that “Sources say the negotiations are in the extremely early stages, but if they were to move forward, Moss would star in the film with Upgrade filmmaker Leigh Whannell writing and directing. Sources also indicate that Johnny Depp, who was originally tapped to play the title character, will not be involved.”
After many delays, the studio is moving on the fresh plan for their classic monster franchise, called the “Dark Universe,” but may have “tabled the idea of an interconnected universe and is reassessing how to keep the enduring characters relevant for a new generation.”
Moss will be seen on the big screen with roles in Jordan Peele’s Us, the rock drama Her Smell, and the female-led gangster film The Kitchen. A release date for the new Invisible Man has not yet been set.
She is also returning for the third season of the Emmy-winning The Handmaid’s Tale, which is expected to premiere this summer.
Depp was previously cast into the Dark Universe, but as The Mummy flopped with critics and the fans, all of the plans were scrapped.
