Hand Grenade Explosion At Grand Anwar Mosque In Ethiopia
As reported by Stratfor, a hand grenade had been thrown into the Grand Anwar Mosque in the capital of Ethiopia, and as a result, 6 people got injured. Authorities had stated that the explosion took place right after the evening prayers at the mosque in the Mercato district if the city which is predominantly a Muslim district.
What The Head Of Wordea Security Had To Say
Mesfin, who is the head of Wordea Security, stated that the cause of the event was most likely a personal disagreement that took place between the involved parties. Such disagreements, while are common, end up causing a lot of disruptions and headache to the local community.
The Efforts Against Al-Shabaab Islamist Militants
While no one came up immediately to claim responsibility for the bombing, the officials were on the lookout as they were trying to determine the people behind this. Ethiopia has mainly tried to avoid attacks by Al-Shabaab Islamist militants, even though they had deployed troops in Somalia so that the radical group can be fought. Uganda, Djibouti, and Kenya have already been attacked by this group since they had participated in a Somalia African Union Force.
The Invasion Of Somalia
In 2006, the Ethiopian forces had invaded Somalia so that Al-Shabaab could be fought. They still happen to be situated in the country where they are working alongside AU troops. These are the troops that have managed significant gains. However, the militant group is still one of the biggest threats in terms of security in the region of East Africa. The military in Ethiopia is also considered to be strong in the region. Two years ago, there was a bomb explosion that took place inside central Addis Abada. This is believed to have been the doing of attackers who had been preparing for an attack at a football match which was to take place on the same day.
Somalia’s Al-Shabaab
This Islamist militant group is known to be battling the Somalia government backed by the UN and has also carried out numerous attacks in its neighbor country Kenya. The group is linked to al-Qaeda, and while it has been pushed out of most of the towns it once had control in, the group still remains a major threat. Al-Shabaab has also known to be setting up a comprehensive recruitment network within Kenya, especially in the surroundings of the port city of Mombasa. This has a large population consisting of Muslims.
Stratfor was quick to reveal all of this information along with the details regarding militant groups and invasions that had taken place in Somalia.
