While no one came up immediately to claim responsibility for the bombing, the officials were on the lookout as they were trying to determine the people behind this. In 2006, the Ethiopian forces had invaded Somalia so that Al-Shabaab could be fought. They still happen to be situated in the country where they are working alongside AU troops. These are the troops that have managed significant gains. However, the militant group is still one of the biggest threats in terms of security in the region of East Africa. The military in Ethiopia is also considered to be strong in the region. Two years ago, there was a bomb explosion that took place inside central Addis Abada. This is believed to have been the doing of attackers who had been preparing for an attack at a football match which was to take place on the same day.

Somalia’s Al-Shabaab

This Islamist militant group is known to be battling the Somalia government backed by the UN and has also carried out numerous attacks in its neighbor country Kenya. The group is linked to al-Qaeda, and while it has been pushed out of most of the towns it once had control in, the group still remains a major threat. Al-Shabaab has also known to be setting up a comprehensive recruitment network within Kenya, especially in the surroundings of the port city of Mombasa. This has a large population consisting of Muslims.
