A missile launched from Hamas into Israel ended a ceasefire which started in August as Israel retaliated by bombing a military base in the Gaza Strip. An Israeli aircraft dropped bombs, but in the Khan Younis region caused no fatalities.
Now, as tensions mount, Israeli forces shot and killed a militant in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday and an Israeli soldier was wounded from the firefight.

The military said in a statement that a routine patrol on the Israeli side of the border came under attack from snipers in the southern Gaza Strip and that forces responded with fire from the ground and the air.
On the bombing, military spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Lerner said, “The IDF [military] will not permit any attempt to undermine the security and jeopardize the well being of the civilians of Israel. The Hamas terrorist organization is responsible and accountable for today’s attack against Israel.”
Hamas blames the Jewish nation, with the terrorist group warning Israel against “continuing to violate” the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire and that this was a “dangerous violation and a crossing of all red lines, as well as playing with fire.”
The group said in a statement issued in the Gaza Strip that, “The enemy alone bears the responsibility of the repercussions of its uncalculated actions.”
