‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ update by director James Gunn: the characters and Quill’s mixtape
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is the last chapter before the big Avengers sequel and director James Gunn spoke at Sunday’s AMC Movie Talk to discuss the film, beginning with the unique cast and feel of the film.
“I do think that it is a completely original movie, and I do think that it is a character piece at the core of it … Finding actors that were specifically suited to doing each of those roles is what we needed to do … That’s what the Guardians are, an eclectic band of characters who come together for a single purpose.”
Gunn even addressed why “Hooked on a Feeling” was part of the trailer. “There’s a lot of things that people will find out when they see the movie. The song’s in the movie. We know about the Walkman. Quill has a Sony Walkman and that song’s on his mixtape.”
He discusses casting Chris Pratt after not wanting to audition the Parks and Recreation star as well as the challenge of adding Yondu, played by The Walking Dead star Michael Rooker.
The film centers on misfits Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) teaming up to protect a mysterious orb from the clutches of the villainous Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).
