Godzilla now an official resident of Japan
Sixty-one years after he first trampled Tokyo and the Japanese countryside, the “King of the Monsters” is becoming legit in his homeland.
Godzilla has officially been recognized as a citizen of a resident of Shinjuku, and as an added bonus, the aged lizard was also named as the tourism ambassador of Japan.

Godzilla’s citizenship certificate was posted on Twitter and the BBC translated it for the English-speaking world as follows:
Name: Godzilla
Address: Shinjuku-ku, Kabuki-cho, 1-19-1
Date of birth: April 9, 1954
Reason for special residency: Promoting the entertainment of and watching over the Kabuki-cho neighborhood and drawing visitors from around the globe
Previous visits to Shinjuku Ward: 3 times; Godzilla (1984), Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991), Godzilla 2000 Millennium (1999)
The news of the monster’s citizenship follows two months after he was named special resident and tourism ambassador for Tokyo’s Shinjuku ward.
