Gilas Pilipinas loses to Iran, grabs silver at 2013 FIBA Asia Championship, headed to Spain for the 2014 FIBA World Cup
After beating rival South Korea in a hard fought win, Gilas Pilipinas was set to meet the Iranian team Sunday with hopes of a gold in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship Finals.
However, before a packed Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Sunday, the Iranian team came in and dominated the glass with a 51-34 rebounding edge and controlled the game from the beginning to put Gilas Pilipinas down with a 85-71 victory.
So now Iran , the Philippines and South Korea (Bronze) are headed to Spain for the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
Jayson Castro William led Gilas Pilipinas with 18 points and was included in the Top 5 players of the tournament, while Jimmy Alapag scored 13 points going 3 for 6 from the 3 point arch.
Iran’s Hamed Hadadi with 29 points and 16 rebounds and also MVP of the tournament. Three other Iranians finished in double-digit as forward Samad Nikkhah Bahrami collected 19 points while adding seven rebounds and six assists. Oshin Sahakian had 12 points and 12 boards, while guard Mahdi Kamrany finished with 16 points.
