Germans hold bizarre food fight on Oberbaum Bridge
The two neighborhood districts, which are separated by the Oberbaumbruecke (Oberbaum Bridge), battled it out on Sunday, hurling mass quantities of rotten food at each other in an effort to gain control of the bridge. The two groups gathered their old food items including ketchup, chicken drumsticks, flour, water guns and Styrofoam bats, in an attempt to push the other team back to their side of the bridge.
Oberbaumbruecke, which separates East Berlin’s Friedrichshain district and the district of Kreuzberg in West Berlin, has become the vegetable battle ground since 1998.
According to reports, Friedrichshain won this year’s battle, defeating their arch enemy Kreuzberg who happened to take the title last year.
For those wondering what items may be used in the annual vegetable battle, the rules state:
Allowed is water, flour and everything is soft and slippery!
The rules also state that bottles, cans and any hard objects that could injure others cannot be used.
For those not interested in participating in the vegetable battle, they are advised:
Who does not want to be dirty, you should not stop at the specified period in the area of the bridge.
