Although she won’t be going home quite yet, 24-year-old Aimee Copeland will be transferred  to an inpatient rehabilitation clinic and will spend the next several weeks learning to move herself with the aid of a wheelchair.

Copeland’s father, Andy Copeland said that Aimee is real excited about the upcoming “change of venue”.

On May 1, Aimee contracted a rare case of necrotizing fasciitis caused by the waterborne bacterium, Aeromonas hydrophila. Typically necrotizing fasciitis is caused by Group A Strep bacteria.

Copeland, who lost several limbs due the the destructive nature of the infection, will spend about two months learning to move just her amputated limbs – as in shifting from her bed to her wheelchair.

Andy Copeland said Aimee will later  learn to use prosthetic limbs.

With a goal of graduating  from the University of West Georgia in December with a master’s in Psychology, Andy Copeland said, “She is very ambitious with her plan right now”.  She said, ‘You know, I want to have that done and I want to be able to walk in December.’ She meant walk across the stage in prosthetic limbs and get her master’s degree. I don’t know when she’s going to find time to work on her thesis. But she’s going to work it out.”
