George Miller talks ‘Mad Max Fury Road’ sequels with ‘Mad Max The Wasteland’ planned
Mad Max: The Wasteland is a planned sequel to 2015’s ‘Mad Max: Fury Road that will feature the return of Tom Hardy as the titular character and director George Miller revealed that he will continue to make more movies in the cinematic series despite previous reports of his exit from the franchise.
According to /Film, Miller is set to work on more films in the Mad Max franchise despite the “misquoted” statement from a previous interview where he apparently said he was through with the series.
“That was a completely garbled interview. I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review. She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another Mad Max movie] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another Mad Max. It won’t necessarily be next but I have two more stories.”
Miller, 70, talked with The Wrap after Fury Road was nominated for ten Academy Awards, pointing to two other projects, which remain unconfirmed as of the present.
With IGN Miller announced “Fury Road with Charlize Theron, Zoe Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Riley Keough was forever getting completed. If you finish one in a year, it’s considered a leap of faith. Start, stop, start again… Those Mad Maxes take forever. I won’t do those anymore.”
His statement seemed contradictory to past interviews where he talked about plans for future films in the franchise.
Mad Max: The Wasteland will be written by Miller as a follow-up to Fury Road and will be the fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise.
