‘Gambit’ details emerge, ‘New Mutants’ still set for 2019, ‘X-Force’ waiting for Drew Goddard, ‘Multiple Man’ coming

Simon Kinberg tease Dark Phoenix and reveals a ton of details about the other projects in development.

Most interesting is the take on Gambit as a comedy: “When you look at Gambit, he’s a hustler and a womanizer and we just felt like there was an attitude, a swagger to him, that lent itself to romantic comedy.”

He explained: “You know, when I say romantic comedy, I use that term loosely, in the same term that I use the term western for Logan loosely. It’s not like they’re gunslingers at high noon in Logan. It’s just a vibe. And I would say the vibe of Gambit has a romantic or sex comedy vibe to it. While it is also still very much a superhero movie with villains and heroes, as all these movies are.”

Kinberg wrote Mr. & Mrs. Smith, so fans will be hoping for some of that “romantic action comedy” spirit influencing Gambit.

“Gambit has a great script and we’re looking to start that movie early next year. Multiple Man, that script’s being worked on right now. [As for X-Force,] we’re just waiting for Drew Goddard to be done with releasing his film that comes out in a few weeks, and then he’ll get started on that script to direct.”

The New Mutants, which, after a delay of over a year (it was originally set to open back in April of this year), is still on the calendar for August 2, 2019.

While some may doubt that Fox would release two X-Men movies so close to each other, that strategy hasn’t really hurt Marvel and New Mutants promises to be radically different than Dark Phoenix.

Fox will now be releasing an Untitled Deadpool Movie on December 21st. It’s unclear what exactly this movie is, but rumor has it that it will actually be a PG-13 re-release of Deadpool 2 with some additional content featuring Fred Savage reprising his role from The Princess Bride. However, instead of Peter Falk, it’ll be Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), who sits down to tell him a deeply disturbing bedtime story.
