Florida voters pass all of the amendments except for one, the homestead changes to reduce tax revenue
There was a long list of proposed constitutional changes, Floridians voted Tuesday to approve all but one of the 12 constitutional amendments on the midterm ballot, clearing the 60 percent threshold required to pass.
Amendment 1, which would have raised the portion of a home’s value that can be exempted from non-school property taxes, did not pass with a total vote of 58 percent.
This amendment would have applied to the assessed value of a homestead property between $100,000 and $125,000, raising the maximum exemption to $75,000. Homeowners would would have saved a couple hundred dollars with the change, effective Jan. 1, cutting revenue for local governments.
