The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) and Democracy For America (DFA) are releasing the results of a recently commissioned poll by Public Policy Polling (PPP) that shows Rep. Alan Grayson leading Rep. Patrick Murphy in Florida’s race for U.S. Senate by 33% to 32%.

The poll of 829 likely Florida Democratic primary between March 23 and 24 voters found that 73% turned on Murphy after hearing about his record of working with Republicans to try to cut Social Security benefits and his votes to deregulate Wall Street while taking large checks from some of the biggest Wall Street banks. Ironically, the poll also showed that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Washington DC establishment’s backing of Murphy makes people more likely to support Alan Grayson.
Detailed results with margins of error are below.

Patrick Murphy was a lifelong Republican until he decided to run for office a few years ago – even donating thousands of dollars to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign.
In Congress, Patrick Murphy said we have to look at cuts to Social Security. He later praised a grand bargain with Republicans that would have cut Social Security benefits for the vast majority of Social Security recipients. Patrick Murphy has also voted to deregulate Wall Street and has taken thousands of dollars from Wall Street firms.
Do you consider this a very convincing, somewhat convincing, or not at all convincing reason to vote against Patrick Murphy?
Very convincing……………………………………….. 47%
Somewhat convincing………………………………. 26%
Not at all convincing…………………………………. 27%
*829 likely Florida Democratic primary voters, margin of error +/-3.4%
Joint Statement from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy For America:
“Alan Grayson is leading by a hair. Voters are not happy when they learn Patrick Murphy worked with Republicans to try to cut Social Security for millions of Florida seniors. They are also not happy that Murphy takes money from Wall Street interests and then votes to deregulate Wall Street, allowing risky gambling to put the life savings and homes of millions of Floridians at risk. Alan Grayson has consistently fought against cuts to Social Security — and is a national leader on expanding Social Security and Medicare benefits.”
