Florida Democrats rally to support President Obama, Iran nuke deal

The Florida Young Democrats urge the leaders and elected officials of the Democratic Party to join us in supporting the diplomatic efforts of President Obama’s administration in securing a nonproliferation resolution with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

As President Obama has stated, this is an “historic understanding” between the United States, Iran, and other major world powers that will not only prevent war, but will also open cultural, academic, and business relations between our countries.

Beyond the benefits of nonproliferation, this deal is a strong and necessary step towards a national objective: regional stability in the Middle East. We believe that the failed policies of the past 36 years, which embrace isolationism and war mongering, only encourage conflict with Iran and the misunderstanding of a people. Young Americans have come of age throughout a continuous period of war that has cost our nation trillions of dollars and thousands of lives while regional instability in Middle East persists.

It is our belief that a lasting peace can only be achieved through these necessary, diplomatic engagements which encourage the people of all nations to join in the international community and work together towards building a better world.

We join our nation’s top scientists, military leaders, academics, and public figures in commending the leadership and courage of the President to push for peace in the face of criticism, and we applaud this historic resolution. As Floridians, we commend and support U.S. Senator Bill Nelson and Democratic National Committee Chairwoman, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, for their support of the Iran deal.

The Florida Young Democrats, representing all Florida Democrats between 14 years of age and 36 years of age, urge that all Democrats stand behind President Obama in support of this historic and diplomatic agreement.
