Florida child, Taj Ayesh, age 2, shot and killed in accidental shooting

Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the death of a 2-year-old Lakeland, Florida child who died from a gunshot wound.

Officials say the child, Taj H. Ayesh, was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center by his parents  where he was pronounced during surgery.

The woman, Stephanie Nealy, age 29, explained to authorities that she moved a loaded handgun inside a truck while she was looking for a “prepaid card.” She turned away at one point, heard the gunshot and saw her son collapsing to the ground.

The truck and handgun reportedly belonged to Nealy’s boyfriend Hathum R. Ayesh.

Neighbors spoke with Bay News 9, “It was horrible,” said Barbara Griffin, who lives right next door.

“It’s very sad and you’ve got to feel sorry for the family,” neighbor Orlando Coiradas told the local station, who has young children of his own just a few doors down.

“It’s not my child but it hurts you, as well,” said Coiradas.

Barbara Griffin told Bay News 9 that her son watched it happen and saw the mother yelling out for help. She said he called 911 and did everything he could.

“And it’s still upsetting to him,” Griffin said, referring to her son, 36, who has several children of his own.  “He said, Momma, I’ve never seen anything like that before.”
