First trailer for ‘The Dark Tower’ focuses on the Gunslinger, overall plot
Many fans are already calling the first trailer for The Dark Tower “epic” as it gives a great overview of the film, showcasing Idris Elba as the Gunslinger.
Based on the Stephen King novels, The Dark Tower is definitely looking like a movie which will be well worth the attention of the die-hard fans and casual audience members. The trailer confirms that this film will NOT be a direct adaptation of the books, but a lot of the key elements are there (possibly just serving as a sequel to the novels.)
Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers is featured greatly in the trailer with a powerful introduction to Matthew McConaughey’s The Man in Black, creating images familiar to the fans of King’s work.
“The Tower protects both our worlds,” The Gunslinger replies when asked about the Man in Black’s scheme. “If it falls, Hell will be unleashed.”
The film is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) with a supporting cast that includes Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Neon Demon) as Tirana; Fran Kranz (The Cabin in the Woods) as Pimli, the right hand man of Randall Flagg; Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, A Nightmare on Elm Street); Katheryn Winnick (Vikings) and Claudia Kiim (Avengers: Age of Ultron).
The Dark Tower arrives in theaters on August 4, 2017.
Here’s the official synopsis: There are other worlds than these. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.
